Knowing when not to treat is part of responsible practice.
McLeod Method™ is a conservative, non-surgical framework designed to support people with Lipoedema and complex tissue concerns.
It does not replace medical diagnosis, medical treatment or the management of underlying health conditions.
Lipoedema can coexist with lymphatic, vascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal and other health concerns. For this reason, treatment should never be based on the appearance of the tissue alone.
Before treatment, practitioners should consider the individual's health history, current symptoms, medications, tissue presentation, treatment tolerance and any contraindications associated with the modalities being considered.
Where symptoms fall outside the practitioner's scope of practice, appropriate medical or allied-health assessment should be sought.
Treatment may need to be modified, postponed or avoided where there are concerns such as acute illness or infection, unexplained pain or swelling, suspected vascular compromise, compromised skin integrity, recent surgery without appropriate clearance, or other conditions that may make a particular intervention unsuitable.
Each device or modality used within McLeod Method™ also carries its own indications, precautions and contraindications.
Practitioners must therefore work within their professional scope, training and applicable regulatory requirements and follow the safety guidance associated with the equipment they use.
McLeod Method™ does not encourage practitioners to diagnose conditions outside their professional scope.
Instead, the framework encourages recognition, appropriate screening, responsible treatment selection and referral when required.
Treatment intensity should also remain appropriate to the individual.
Pain, excessive bruising, unexpected swelling, significant skin response or other adverse symptoms should never be regarded as evidence that a treatment is “working.”
Safety is not separate from the method. It is part of the method.
