Electrophysical Modalities Within McLeod Method™

Technology with purpose — not technology for technology's sake.

Electrophysical modalities use forms of physical energy, such as light, sound or electrical energy, to interact with biological tissue.

They are widely used across areas of physiotherapy, rehabilitation, pain management, wound care and aesthetic medicine, although the evidence, indications and mechanisms differ considerably between individual modalities.

Within McLeod Method™, electrophysical modalities are not used simply because a device is available.

Each modality is considered according to the physiological objective of that stage of the treatment sequence, the individual's presentation, tissue tolerance, contraindications and the available scientific evidence.

This distinction is important.

Evidence demonstrating a biological effect of a particular modality does not automatically demonstrate that the modality treats Lipoedema itself.

For this reason, McLeod Method™ distinguishes between:

• evidence relating directly to Lipoedema
• evidence relating to relevant physiological mechanisms or tissue responses
• established clinical applications of a modality
• clinical observations that may warrant further investigation

This allows emerging evidence to inform practice without overstating what the research has established.

The electrophysical component of McLeod Method™ continues to evolve as new research becomes available and as the framework itself undergoes further evaluation.

The technology is not the method. It is one carefully selected tool within the method.
