For Practitioners

A framework for more considered care.

Women presenting with Lipoedema and complex tissue concerns require more than a standardised treatment applied to every body.

They require practitioners who understand what they are seeing, why the tissue may behave differently, when treatment should be modified — and when treatment should not proceed at all.

McLeod Method™ practitioner education was developed to bridge the space between understanding the condition and delivering thoughtful, individualised physical support.

Beyond learning a protocol

McLeod Method™ is not designed to teach practitioners simply to follow a sequence of machines or treatment steps.

Practitioners are taught the reasoning behind the framework.

This includes understanding:

Lipoedema and complex tissue presentation • Tissue response • Lymphatic considerations • Treatment intensity • Compression • Movement • Self-management • Contraindications • Clinical observation • Appropriate referral

The aim is to develop practitioners who can think critically about the body in front of them.

Why practitioner education matters

Contemporary Lipoedema guidance reinforces the importance of knowledgeable practitioners and multidisciplinary care.

The US Standard of Care recommends assessment by therapists with appropriate lymphatic training and states that education and training should be delivered by qualified practitioners. It describes conservative management as potentially including manual therapy, compression, pneumatic compression and home exercise.

The 2024 German S2k guideline similarly brings multiple professional disciplines together and emphasises physiotherapy, movement, compression, patient education and self-management within Lipoedema care.

McLeod Method™ practitioner education has been developed within this broader philosophy of informed, responsible and individualised support.

Learn the reasoning — not just the steps.

Every component of the Method has a purpose.

Practitioners learn to consider:

Why a modality is being used.

What physiological response is being sought.

How intensity and treatment should be adapted.

What the available evidence actually supports.

Where evidence remains emerging.

And importantly:

When not to treat.

Evidence-informed practice

McLeod Method™ distinguishes between established conservative principles, emerging Lipoedema research, evidence from related fields, physiological rationale and clinical hypotheses that still require investigation.

Practitioners are not taught to present emerging science as established fact.

They are taught to understand the difference.

The 2024 German guideline itself stresses that evidence-based patient education and scientifically substantiated information are essential to supporting effective self-management.

Clinical reasoning at the centre

The McLeod Method™ framework follows five principles:

PREPARE → MOBILISE → SUPPORT → COMPRESS → MAINTAIN

The practitioner curriculum goes considerably deeper than the public framework, exploring treatment rationale, assessment, safety, modality application, tissue response, treatment progression, home support and case-based decision making.

The complete proprietary protocol and treatment parameters are reserved for practitioner education.

Certification

Practitioners undertaking McLeod Method™ certification complete structured theoretical education together with assessment of their understanding and practical application.

Certification is intended to demonstrate completion of McLeod Method™ proprietary training.

McLeod Method™ certification is not a government qualification, medical qualification or professional registration, and does not extend a practitioner's existing legal scope of practice.

That sentence stays. It protects the integrity of what you're building.

A growing professional community

McLeod Method™ is designed to evolve.

As the evidence develops, practitioner education can develop with it.

As clinical observations generate new questions, those questions can inform future investigation.

And as the practitioner network grows, so does the opportunity to improve how women with Lipoedema are understood and supported.

We don't need practitioners who simply know the Method.

We need practitioners who understand why they are using it.
